Growing up, I’ve always dreamed of living in a country that has four seasons (winter, spring, summer, and fall). Having used to enjoying the summer weather year round back home in Indonesia, I felt like I was missing out on some incredible experiences of having different seasons in one year!
There’s something empowering and inspiring about watching the leaves turning yellow in the fall, and the flowers blooming in the spring! It’s like witnessing nature as she signals the coming of a brand new day.
Now, although I like watching the seasons change, I have to admit that some changes in life are harder to adapt to than others, like the loss of someone you love, or a new job, or a lost dream….My son was complaining to me the other day about how I redecorated our living room. Being on the autism spectrum, J doesn’t usually deal with changes smoothly. He prefers things to stay constant everyday. So seeing all the changes I made, he was screaming “No change please, I’m done with changes.”
In that moment, I could feel his pain, because I realized that I often find my self screaming these things on the inside! Life feels like it’s moving too fast at times, and in the words of John Mayer, “I can’t take the speed, it’s moving in, won’t someone stop this train?”
I don’t have an answer to this mystery of how to hit pause on this ever-moving, ever-changing life. I myself am still figuring out how to “adult” most days, and y’all it is not easy. It’s a LOT. And it could get very overwhelming.
But I’ll leave you with this : The only constant thing in life is change. So whether we like it or not, I hope you and I can learn to adapt and even embrace all the changes we face.
Say hello to Spring, my friends!
